Depending on the age of the students, our outreach team members will connect to the class with either a science lesson followed by an interactive Q&amp;A session or through a fun hands-on demonstration to create a dialogue with the students about science and engineering. The goals of this outreach include exciting youth about science and engineering in general and superconductivity in particular and to model approachable professional behavior and potential career paths for our youth.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-41461\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse41461\" aria-controls=\"collapse41461\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> Colloquium at the University of Hawaii: Lectures and Demonstrations<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse \" id=\"collapse41461\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-4146\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-41461\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p style=\"text-align: justify\">On Thursday October 20, 2022 (the Thursday before the Applied Superconductivity Conference), ASEF will demonstrate superconductivity at UH M\u0101noa to students and faculty at UH, to high-school and college educators (through AAPT), and, remotely, to the wider community. A one-hour lecture on superconductivity will begin at 3 p.m. After 4 p.m., there will be a variety of demonstrations with particular emphasis on demonstrations that can be used in the classroom to illustrate important principles but also including rides on the IEEE superconducting levitator. Kits for use in classrooms will be provided to educators who pre-register for the colloquium.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-41462\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse41462\" aria-controls=\"collapse41462\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> ASEF Science Friday Public Outreach Event<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse \" id=\"collapse41462\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-4146\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-41462\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Applied Superconductivity Educational Foundation, ASEF Science Friday public outreach event will be held at the lush Hawaii Convention Center on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Kamehameha Exhibit Hall II-III on the last day of the 2022 Applied Superconductivity Conference. This event, open to the public, is a collaboration between the ASEF and the Hawaii Department of Education which will transport more the 400 high school students from public schools to the convention center. Many of these students represent schools at which the ASEF ELEVATE Outreach Team will have provided demonstrations, given lectures about superconductivity, and highlighted the ASC\u201922 conference the week before the conference.
