PRESENTATION TITLE

Quantum Computing: Towards the Road to Advantage

ABSTRACT

The theory of quantum mechanics predicts that a group of particles can be entangled, and thus their collective behavior is more complex than a description that treats them individually and independently. When applied to bits in a computer, quantum entanglement predicts that the computational space spanned by N qubits can grow exponentially. Preserving coherence in a quantum processor capable of accessing 2^N distinct configurations, efficiently controlling these states with classical electronics, correcting for errors in real-time using additional qubits, and developing algorithms that effectively employ entanglement for impactful calculations all represent contemporary challenges in realizing a machine that can demonstrate computational advantage over modern classical computers. Superconducting circuits are at the forefront of emerging quantum computing technologies. I will highlight recent milestones in the field, paying particular attention to developments in error correction, and quantum simulations that have shed light on new states of magnetic matter.
