ASEF Board Message

ASEF Board Message

A statement on the Invasion of Ukraine by the Applied Superconductivity Educational Foundation
(8 March 2022)

The Applied Superconductivity Educational Foundation (ASEF) represents a diverse international community of scientists, students, educators, and industrial partners. The ASEF Board strongly condemns the unprovoked Russian act of war and affirms democratic Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence. Our deep concern is with the Ukraine citizenry including fellow colleagues and students who are now in harm’s way, many fleeing violence and death for the hope of safety. We encourage our members to contribute to the various crisis relief funds in support of the Ukrainian people.

The mission of the ASEF, and its Applied Superconductivity Conference (ASC), is to promote international exploration, learning and the exchange of scientific and technical ideas, breakthroughs and accomplishments, and to provide an array of educational and interactive experiences and events. ASEF believes scientific interaction and collaboration across geopolitical boundaries helps build bridges and make the world more connected with increased cultural understanding. We will therefore continue to interact with and support all of our international members around the world as allowed by U.S. law. The ASEF will not accept Russian sponsorship or advertising for ASC’22.

The ASEF Officers
A. Lichtenberger, President, L. Chiesa, Vice President, B. Strauss and K. Amm, Treasurers, E. Hellstrom, Secretary
on behalf of the ASEF Board

Ancillary Meetings

Ancillary Meetings

We anticipate that a number of ancillary meetings will be held in conjunction with ASC 2022. If you would like to arrange a meeting during the Conference, please contact the ASC 2022 Conference Manager, Paula Pair, by email for assistance.

Limited space at the Hawaii Convention Center is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please provide the following information pertaining to your meeting:

Date
Time (start and end times)
Anticipated attendance
Setup (U-shape, conference style, etc.)
Audio visual requirements
Internet requirements
Electrical requirements
Food and beverage requirements
Subject/Title of Meeting
Organizer’s contact information (with email address)
On-site point of contact (if not the Meeting Organizer noted above)

Upon receipt of the information above, meeting organizers will receive a meeting space request confirmation from Paula Pair. Once a meeting room is assigned, Paula will send an e-introduction to the meeting organizer and the proper point of contact at the Hawaii Convention Center by email.

In all cases, the meeting organizer will be responsible for setting up direct billing arrangements with the convention center’s point of contact. ASC 2022 is not responsible for ancillary meeting related expenses.

ASC Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct for Applied Superconductivity Conference Meetings

It is the policy of the Applied Superconductivity Educational Foundation (ASEF) that all participants, including attendees, exhibitors, staff, volunteers, officers, and all other stakeholders involved in Applied Superconductivity Conferences (ASC) will conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner that is welcoming to all participants and free from inappropriate behavior, including any form of discrimination, harassment, bullying, violence or retaliation. Participants will treat each other with respect and consideration to create a collegial, inclusive, and professional environment at ASC meetings and activities related to meetings. Creating a supportive environment to enable scientific discourse at ASC meetings is the responsibility of all participants.

Participants will not exhibit any inappropriate actions or statements based on individual characteristics such as age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, religion, marital status, nationality, political affiliation, ability status, educational background, or any other characteristic protected by law. Actions inconsistent with this code of conduct, including disruptive or harassing behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. Harassment includes but is not limited to inappropriate or intimidating behavior and language, unwelcome jokes or comments, unwanted touching or attention, offensive images, and stalking.

Violations of this code of conduct policy should be reported to a Board member or a member of the ASC diversity and inclusion committee as soon as possible. Identities of Board members are on the ASC websites. If a participant observes inappropriate comments or actions and personal intervention seems appropriate and safe to correct the problem, they should use their best judgment in determining appropriate intervention. In the case of any threat of violence, venue security personnel or appropriate law enforcement authorities should be contacted.

Sanctions for violations may include, but are not limited to, verbal or written warning, ejection from a meeting without refund, exclusion from other ASC activities, and/or action by security personnel or appropriate authorities. Retaliation for complaints of inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated.

Terms and Conditions for Applied Superconductivity Conference Meetings

Terms and Conditions for Applied Superconductivity Conference Meetings

Submission of a registration is regarded as affirmation of your acceptance of the Applied Superconductivity Conference (ASC) Meeting Terms & Conditions.

  • Privacy and use of information: ASC maintains a Privacy Policy. ASC is committed to protecting your personal information and maintaining data in a secure manner. You acknowledge that ASC may use your personal data consistent with this policy, including meeting content and logistics (e.g., listing you name in the program when you are a presenter). You also acknowledge use of your information in accordance with the Privacy Policy for third party services, such as a housing bureau. Except as described in the Privacy Policy, ASC will not disclose your personal data to a third party without your consent except when required to do so by law.
  • Event conduct: ASC maintains a Code of Conduct. ASC is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment to all participants, including staff, vendors, and other support. You agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and its principles, and participants are furthermore expected to be tolerant, inclusive, and respectful. If you observe or experience unacceptable behavior, contact onsite event staff or an ASC Board Member as soon as possible. These persons will be identified by unique ribbons or lanyards on the identification badge.
  • Event safety and security: ASC provides event security at all times. Attendees must wear identification badges when participating in the meeting and any events connected to the meeting listed in the official program. If you observe a direct threat, contact venue security personnel or appropriate law enforcement authorities immediately.
  • Use of photographic and video devices to take notes: It is not ethically acceptable to record by use of a phone or camera the entire content of a presentation or poster without the consent of the presenter. Extensive photographic or video note-taking is also disruptive to other attendees. You agree to refrain from extensive photography or recording of presentations. Session chairs may instruct participants to stop disruptive behavior, and participants agree to abide by instructions from session chairs. Occasional photographic or video note-taking is permissible, provided that care is taken to not disrupt other participants. ASC has provided the means for authors to upload supplemental material in connection with the presentation identifier, which may include a copy of the presentation. Attendees are also encouraged to request materials directly from the presenter instead of extensive photographic note-taking.
